A bust for Esperanto, and Ukrainian has the coolest one out of the bunch, I'd say. I like the bright color and the gradient look. Thanks for the heads-up!

Is it just me, or do some of the other course icons look a bit different as well (gradient color change)? Love these new ones as well!

I was referring to the other course icons; not just Esperanto and Ukrainian. Were you talking about all of them?

Indeed I was. :) I think the blue ones are definitely the easiest to tell. The whole thing reminds me of iOS 7.

Agreed; the trend seems to be to make everything more flat and simple. I actually like it.

EDIT: The other thing is see-through. I especially like that!

Yep, I do. Many of the sites I frequent and apps I use are transitioning to the flat design. I love it, because it looks simple and sleek.

I agree that flat design looks good when it is used appropriately, as DuoLingo is doing (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a total DL fanboy). It is a bust when used poorly, like in Windows 8 - it is good when buttons look like buttons instead of a patch or a bumper sticker.

The new symbol for the Swedish course is the Stockholm City Hall. The reason for the change is that the Turning Torso (which was the previous symbol) is just a residential building with little to none symbolic value.

The City Hall is one of few well-known buildings in Sweden. It has one of the most important symbols in Sweden on top of its roof, the three crowns (However these seem to have been left out for some inexplicable reason) and it is also the venue for the Nobel Prize Banquet which makes it one of the most important buildings in Sweden.

The Swedish team pushed for a change since we did not feel like we could identify with the Turning Torso. It may look cooler as a symbol, but in the end, a symbol is much more than just a cool image.

The CTRL-F5 key combination (command-F5 on Mac) should force your page to reload all images from the server, rather than from a local cache. http://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/cache/

Not sure about the turkish one, but the swedish one is Stockholms Stadshus (Stockholm City Hall). At least I think it is.
