Dutch is not always as compact as English. That makes it harder to translate literally. The sentence 'having a car is expensive' would be 'het hebben van een auto is duur', but could also be translated as 'het is duur om een auto te hebben'. Quite literally this sentence would translate in 'ik houd niet van het hebben van een auto'. I don't know if that is accepted by the program? If you have a sentence like 'I don't like working', the possible translations are 'ik houd niet van werken' and 'ik houd er niet van om te werken'. The first sentence would more imply that you don't like the concept of working, the second is more that you don't like the act of working. Maybe it helps you :-)
