To guess is choose an answer when you don't have the information to know the answer: I am taking a test. I don't know the answer to the question. I will have to guess.

Assume and suppose are very close in meaning and both are similar to guess but they often suggest you have more information, and are often used in a way that is also similar to 'think'.

I suppose I had better get ready now or I will be late. (There's no guessing involved here - I know that I will be late if I don't do what I need to do. I'm just expressing the fact that I know I should do something - possibly something I don't really want to do.)

Assume means that you don't know for certain but you will think or behave as if you know it to be true.

I assume John will not be coming with us tonight if he was too ill to go to work today.

This is all further confused by the fact that in informal American English, people say 'I guess' where more formal or non-American English would use 'suppose'.

"I guess that {something}" is similar to "Creo que quizas...". You can leave out the "that" most of the time, though. "I guess he's not going to come." Creo que no va a venir.

"I assume" and "I suppose" are a little stronger and suggest that the speaker is going to act on the belief. "I assume he is going to come, so I prepared a room for him." "Creo que él va a venir, por eso preparé una habitación para él".

"I suppose" is a little less strong than "I assume." Sometimes it suggests that the speaker would rather it not be true: "I suppose he's going to come (but I hope he won't) so I have to prepare a room for him." Creo que él va a venir (pero espero que no) por eso tengo que preparer una habitación para él.

thank you very much. I want to know if you have seen any mistake in my writings or if i have to improve?

I only see little mistakes. "What is the difference between..." needs "the" in it.

"I have a doubt" isn't a mistake, but it's not very common in US English. "I have a question" is more common. I've seen "Tengo una duda..." quite frequently in the Spanish forum, so I assume (that word again!) it's common in Spanish.

writing* it is the only mistake I encounter, the other does not

thank you. Can you answer my doubts about "assume", "guess" and "suppose"? How i can use them in sentences?

I would guess you have doubts. Not really sure.

I will assume you have doubts. More sure than a guess.

I do suppose you have doubts. Thinking you may have doubts.

All three could be used this way...

I (guess, assume, suppose) you have doubts. The differences are very subtle.

May you tell me , how it can use "to me " and "for me " in a sentence?. For example: You are perfect to me , or you are perfect for me ? what are differences between these too?.

You are perfect for me. You are kind to me because you do nice things for me.

This coat is perfect for me. This coat was sent to me.

Este abrigo es perfecto para mí. Este abrigo fue enviado a mí.
