"feidhmchlár" is an application on a computer or smartphone (an "app"), whereas "iarratas" is the document you would fill out to apply for a job, etc.

Out of interest, would "féimchlár" be a simplified spelling; or would it sound different?

The pronunciation on teanglann makes me think it'd be fine.
