What's the difference between "som" and "ligesom" in comparisons? I think I have read both until now.

Nothing. As long as one compares things, one could use either "som" or "ligesom" although "ligesom" (often pronounced [li'som]) is mostly use among children.

He acts like a dog. He swims like a fish.

BUT

He works as a teacher. You can use the knife as a screwdriver.

I am not native and I cant explain it, but I hope this will help you.
