Is there the same difference between casa and hogar as there is between house and home? In other words, is hogar a more personal word than casa?
In class we were taught that 'casa' was house and 'a casa' was home. Is there a difference between 'hogar' and 'a casa'?

In most sentences you would use 'a casa' to mean home.
'Voy a casa' (I go home)
You would use 'hogar' in an endearing, warm, fuzzy sense.
'El hogar es donde está el corazón.' (home is where the heart is.)
