"De" is used as a possessive. It is also used to from adjectives. For instance, if I wanted to say "Water God" in Spanish I would say "Dios de agua".

Don't worry about it. If you don't know how to remember them, don't worry. Read a bunch of children's books en español. You may see some of them repeated often. Or read anything that you enjoy en español. Worry about the prepositions that you see often. If you still can't remember, leer más.

Or try using Anki or SuperMemo.

Also, why is de used SOO much?

The same reason why English speakers use of and from soo much. ;-)

Lots of practice. Prepositions are hard between all languages, they just don't map the same way. Think of in, on and at in English for locations _ I am on planet Earth, in the USA, in the city of Arizona in the State of Tucson, on Double O, in my house, sitting at my desk - all of which would be expressed by en in Spanish. Or, depending on dialect, do you stand in line or on line?

You just have to practice enough and read enough to get a feel for them. If a verb generally uses a particular preposition after it to express something, learn the verb with that preposition (tratar de = try, pensar en = think about) Learn some typical sample sentences that you can expand to other circumstances. Stop stressing.
