So I must be progressing - Thanks Duo!
Just thought I would share with you all what happened today.
I ordered a new item for myself, while waiting for it to setup I decided to have a look at the instruction manual. When I picked it up I looked at the contents page and was the there was an English version and after that a Spanish version.
I decided to flip to the Spanish page first and to my surprise I was able to read most of the instructions, just to double check I went back to the English version and I was mostly correct, there were just a few words that I hadn't come across.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to practice on here a lot lately but this just nice to know that I still am progressing and I've come a long way.
So, thanks Duo and also to the Duo community for getting me this far.
It is a great achieve to learn a new language, that process is not simple but it is necessary for to improve the skills provided by Duolingo.
The samething happens to me. I'm a native spanish speaker and I'm learning English with Duolingo from four months ago, and today I'm able to read in English and understand it, at least a little bit of words or sentences and general ideas.
I think that the best wat to learn another language is writing a lot, because the mistakes are the best teachers.
I hope that you continues learning Spanish, You have my help if you want.
Goodbye, and sorry for the mistakes, my english level is very poor :-)
Thanks to everyone for their comments! I'm feeling very well right now because I was thinking that my english was actually poor but now I see that idea is not the truth. Then, my motivation for learning English has grown more and more! Good bye and good luck to everyone!
Your English is pretty amazing for having only four months practice! I've been practicing for almost double that and I can't even imagine writing out the equivalent in Spanish (I am a native English speaker) Btw, it's a great "achievement" :)
Your not giving yourself enough credit. Your American English is VERY good!
Thank you and as the others have said, your English is really good, it is not poor at all :)
Your spanish is excellent, congratulations! No has cometido ningún error en tu frase. Saludos :-)
I do similar things, like trying to read and understand the Spanish instructions on a microwave food item before it finishes cooking.
I have also been known to just prepare the food based solely on my understanding of the Spanish instructions, which I find motivates me to get it right!
I had the same experience a while back when i saw a note on the supermarket door. It was about do not steal from them because the employees do not have the key to the safe in five languages!
Yo aprendí qué están las llaves de la caja dura y tres palabras nuevas ;-)
