Newbie Spanish Learners. Come on in!
Hello everyone. I guess there are a lot of topics for friendship requests and stuff. But I have not found an updated one yet. So here goes:
It is like my second week in Spanish, I think. It has been quite fun till now. There are no competitive friends on my profile so i am looking for an encouragement before the fire in me is put out.
Feel free to ADD/FOLLOW me if you are also looking for a friendly competition.
Any kind of obnoxious request (without manners or being unpolite) will unfortunately be disregarded to keep the community clean.
Also, for general help finding your way around Duolingo, you can check out the WIKI it has a lot of how-to guides and an extensive FAQ. Just recently, someone added a page tracking the community-created bonus skill word lists (So, not official bonus skills, but more like a wish list with the vocab people wish were included, so, still handy.) You can find that page HERE (it includes Spanish word lists, but also some for other languages. So, it's pretty cool.) ^_^
PS If someone is harassing you or violating the Guidelines in general, please use Duolingo's BLOCK FEATURE to block them and then let me or another moderator know. (You can locate mods by the green ring around our user icons in the discussion forums. ;)
Sorry if this is a little messy. I'm sleepy today.
This week's xp leaderboard
1- 1142xp 2- 878xp 3- 770xp 4- 739xp 5- 738xp
And thanks for every other contestant for challenging for this week. Keep it up people! You are all doing very well.
Congratulations to the winners.
Many thanks to barcafan for giving me this advice to post top 5 xp list ;)
It definitely helps to keep me motivated. In fact I used to do about 30-50xp/day but have been working harder lately just to match some of the people I follow.
Here's a few Lingots to put towards a streak freeze if you'd like ;-)
Would you be interested in posting what the top XP's were for the week tomorrow? I am curious how everyone did. It looks like you did well!
I dont want to expose the XP list though. In my opinion , it should not go beyond a simple competition. So challenging behind the doors is way better and respectful to the ones that added me :)
I agree. That was why I suggested posting the top XP's. Not who had them, but just the points. This way we can all have something to look up to! Even the top three. Like saying the three best for the week were 700XP 690XP and 620XP. If it is too much trouble don't bother. At the very least you have successfully motivated a lot of people.
Oh i see. Tomorrow i will post the latest XP list then. It is not too much trouble, dont worry. Thanks for your support. I have an important exam tomorrow so i will only be able to have time at night. Forgive me if it slips my mind ^^
If only it were school ^^ It is sort of an exam for further training in my company ^^
Thanks again for the support.
I'm liking this, need some healthy competition to get me to work harder. I'm in :)
This week's top 5 high scorers:
1067 XP Nutellaman
I had to race the past 4 hours to get the max, I was in third position. I'm all duolingoed out for now.
I may not have everyone from this thread yet though.
Ya, i don't have any friends on Duo either. Most of my Friends are American and as the rest of world knows they don't always care about or want another language. Lets compete!
And most of my friends here are dealing with either French or English. Welcome to my friends list. Lets compete indeed :)
¡Desafortunadamente tiene razón! Soy de los Estados Unidos y es difícil encontrar alguien para aprender con.
I've never seen/heard a sentence finish with con so i may be right in thinking the sentence youve got you just need to drop the con for it to make sense (caution be advised though, I have lately abused my Spanish for my French cap). Also alguien requires the personal 'a' preceding^^
edit: or maybe simply making it into conmigo should work :S!
Nov 28, 2014 I am completely confused! Did I call you Margaret when I shouldn't have? I apologize profusely! Did you change your user name?
Regardless, you want encouragement? I'll be happy to help!
DL can be frustrating at times. However, I have gained more from DL in the year that I've been at it than I have in the many years of trying to memorize grammar rules. Not that grammar isn't important, but with so many sentences to wrestle, when you do look up the rules, they give you that aha! moment and they begin to stick.
As for DL's quirks - and there are many - consider it a game and regard them as part of the nature of the beast. It makes me look it up in outside sources - which I'm using a LOT more than I ever did before! Besides, the quirks generate a lot of useful and often amusing discussion.
I have finished my tree - so I guess I don't qualify as a newbie - but I intend to go back over it to get the details I missed before. Also, some were VERY difficult. I want to redo those till they're easy. I get encouragement from DL friends, even if it's only mild competition.
