Can someone clear up when to use "mij" vs "mijn"?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/emi85pe

Mij is me, mijn is mine (possesive)

I know its, Haar kaas is mijn kaas...but dropdown had "ligt"...et al, and "is" wasn't there so I used it [ligt] and lost a heart...bummer.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/RigelKentian

You could use ''ligt'' if the specific location of said cheese is mentioned. Like: ''her cheese, which is on the table, is my cheese'' = ''haar kaas, die op de tafel ligt, is mijn kaas''.

Difference between von mij and mijn?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WillCavalheri

I believe: van mij = mine ; mijn = my. Examples: Dat kaas is van mij! - That cheese is mine! ; Dat is mijn kaas. - "That is my cheese." ;)

How do you decide if its "zijn" or "is"? Eg. Haar kaas zijn mijn kaas vs haar kaas is mijn kaas

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/UneVisionnaire

If "kaas" is plural, it's "zijn", else it's "is"
