I made a video
To give people an idea of the quality of my German I made a video on Youtube! Check it out here and leave me comments with advice. Thanks guys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsxEPzihxds=youtu.be
This is far better than I expected after the slightly despairing tone of your previous post! I think your three months of immersion have done much more than you realize.
Awh thank you! After a very frustrating day I'm enjoying reading you guys being so supportive :D
Your German sounds great! You've mastered the phonetics really well. Also, very few grammar errors in the video. You really did a great job here! (It's "das Video", BTW. So: "Mein erstes Deutschvideo" :) )
Really amazing to hear, I've changed the name of the video (whoopsie). I'm rather terrible with articles :P
I enjoyed your video immensely! I can tell you are thinking in German, not translating as you speak. Outstanding! You also use your new language expressively, with a lot of inflection.
This is very, very good!! Considering you've only lived in Germany for 4 months I find this quite amazing. I know MANY, MANY people who had moved to Germany and lived and worked there for several years and your German is immensely better than theirs. This is very inspiring, keep up the great work!!
Your video remind me how amazing immersion is for language learning. I have been learning german for two years pretty diligently on my own with the aid of internet resources like duolingo and germanpodcast101. I MIGHT now more words than you do, but my german does not sound as good or flow so easily as yours, I am jealous :) I learned Japanese in Japan and had a very different experience. Immersion is the absolute best way to become fluent, even though you still have to study. Keep it up. You will be pleased (as you already should be) with the results.
Couldn't load it on my ipad. Maybe you took it down? Maybe I'll try later on my laptop. Lingots for being creative AND brave! :)
Thanks! No it's still there :D Let me know if you get the chance to see it :)
Wow! Your German sounds really great! I think you speak very clearly and smoothly and have a very nice sounding accent! I am sure you will be able to add more and more in as time goes on! If you want to work on word order stuff you can do what we did in classes: make lists of the subordinating and coordinating conjunctions and practice making sentences with the words that kick the verb to the end (you can picture a little boot in the sentence kicking the verb to the end) or the ones which keep "normal word order." Deutschlingolia has the most comprehensive list of these types of words. :) https://deutsch.lingolia.com/en/grammar/sentence-structure/dependent-clauses/conjunctions
We used the mnemonic "ADUSO" to remember which words keep normal word order. (aber, denn, und, sondern, oder) http://youtu.be/FtEtKoZkiPA
I thought your video was very impressive! Sounds like you've already learned a great deal, your conversation flowed easily, I agree with the other comments.
I'm not good enough yet to notice any grammar errors, if there were any, but your video sounded great to me. It flowed nicely and I enjoyed listening to it. I hope I can do as well some day.
I also enjoyed your video and I find it interesting that the FSJ is also done by foreign people. I didn't know before that this was possible. But ... ;-) in German you say "mein erstes Video" because video is considered neuter.
Yeah it's possible! Strange huh? It's really great. Thanks, I'm terrible with articles!
Awh, I'm proud of you - you looked like you were feeling a bit weird chatting to a camera (purple is also my favourite colour!) but you pushed through and your German sounds great!
I think that maybe the last day you were just feeling frustrated. I certainly wouldn't be upset if I had your level of German after such a short space of time! If you do still feel like your vocabulary isn't expanding as quickly as you'd like, perhaps try to start a new activity that will expose you to words and phrases that you wouldn't normally come across daily?
I think you are doing brilliantly though.
I'm very impressed by this! I hope to be able to speak this well soon.. I can speak many sentences, but rarely strung together.
Keep up the good work, Ellie.
jesus christ that is amazing after only 6 months. I am very very jealous. I plan to visit Germany (probably Berlin) for four weeks in 2015 and then live there for 3 months in 2018 (when i get long service leave) but because of work and life commitments i cannot stay for longer. You are doing so well. Glückwünsche
waw very very good ellie, impressive ! maybe I'll post language videos here too some day.
I wish I could offer to help, but you're far ahead of me - however I can offer encouragement. Years ago I got to the point that I was beginning to dream in Spanish, and watching the way you speak I'm sure German will come to you. You are much better than you give yourself credit for - hang in there!
WOW! You can speak german very well. I am only just learning cause i am only in 7th grade.
Fantastic. I would love to have your opportunity to be immersed in the language like that.
I appreciate your video and your effort. Your rapid progress of learning Deutsch is inspiring.
You speak German beautifully! I'm learning German myself. Hallo, Ihren deutchen Video wunderbar!
