"Hvad hedder du?" is a better way to say this, is it not?

Well, equally good way of getting someones name but not as direct a translation.

That is because there is no one-word translation for it in English. Dutch has heten, German has heißen.

also Polish has "nazywać się", Russian has "зовут" and Chinese has "叫"_:

Nazywam się... Меня зовут... 我叫...

but u can also use "my name is...":

Mam na imię... Мое имя... 我的名字是...

although I think the "nazywać się/зовут/叫" are more common

latin languages have it too: "come ti chiami?" (italian), "?còmo te llamas?" (Spanish), "comment t'appelles (tu)?" (French)

I lived there and hvad hedder du is the usual phrase

it's so difficult to hear the first 3 words separately (in Danish more than other languages even). but then again if I asked this of someone in English fast it would come out like "s'yer'name?" so I totally get it.

It is not clearly spoken by male voice, being a teaching program it should be easy to hear.

I learned to say "hvad hedder du ?" which is more common?
