As this is not a direct translation, i wrote "he is missing me" which has been given as incorrect. Thoughts please?

Why is "he feels my absence" a wrong answer?

In Portuguese that would be "ele sentiu minha ausência". That is the same as asking: "did he notice i was away?" As for "ele sentiu minha falta?" is similar to "ele ficou com saudades?", or else, "did he miss me a lot?". "Sentir saudade" is when you really want to see the person again, you need him/her a lot, so to speak

Actually, now "he feels my absence" is accepted.

As it should be.

If a literal translation is understandable to native speakers, it should be accepted, even if there is a more common native expression. As long as it is not grammatically wrong.

It's correct, but she doesn't speak the article, that's why.
