Difference in sound between Ihr vs. Er?

I have trouble discerning between the sound of Ihr & Er? They both sound like "ear" to me. Other than looking at the congugation of the verb, is there a difference in the pronounciation that I can pick up?

I think that "ihr" should sound something like "ear," as you say. But IMO "er" should sound more like "air" or maybe a quickly pronounced "air."

"Ihr" sounds like "ear", while "er" sounds like "air", to me.

The computer voice seems to regularly pronounce 'e' as /i:/. "Der" sounds like "dee-ah", "er" and "ihr" sound identical, "gehen" rhymes with "green", etc.

I totally agree, the word by word pronunciation is often off and Ihr vs. Er are indistinguishable, unless spoken in a full sentence at a normal pace.
