What is the difference between Lo siento and perdon?

I thought it was a degree of seriousness, like "perdón, can you please hold the door" and "lo siento, I did not mean to slam the door in your face and make you drop your grandmother's urn."

According to this, it's more complicated than that...unsurprisingly.

"Lo siento" means "I'm sorry" and not always it is for apologize. Sometimes it is to show condolences..

"Perdon" means "forgiveness" and it is used for apologies.

"perdon" is more formal like "pardon me", but "lo siento" is like "sorry"
