300 day streak ends today

When I started this streak, my goal was a year. But better than a longer streak, by Monday afternoon I will be in a fairly remote village in Nicaragua without internet. I'll be there for a week studying Spanish and staying with a local family. None of the instructors nor does the family I'll stay with speak English, so the immersion will be complete. It should be a great adventure.

It's more important to learn than to keep a streak.

You could ask somebody to buy you a streakfreeze every day, that would solve losing your streak. But most importantly, you will start thinking in spanish and learn a TON, this will help your spanish to another level! Buena Suerte!

That's very exciting! I'm in the same position, but losing my streak by going to Cuba with no internet. You are right, speaking Spanish all day is going to be better than a long streak. :) Have fun!

I would love to go to Cuba. Hopefully, the US will soon lift all of our travel restrictions. I could travel there now with a group, but I only travel independently--sometimes I do hire a local guide.

This is my first time going to Cuba. It does look like the US is going that way, so hopefully you'll get to go on your own some day. :)

Perhaps Duolingo should offer an "immersion-length" streak freeze when a person is immersed in the language & unable to access the Internet? En cualquier caso, ¡disfrútalo! :)

We are on our way to Nicaragua in 3 days. Just going to enjoy working on my Spanish and start the streak over when I get back. There is an excellent Spanish school which we will join when we return to Nicaragua in a few months, looking forward to the adventures. That's what this is all about.

Ultimately a streak is just a streak, what's important is the application of your education. Good luck and God bless! :)

https://www.duolingo.com/show_store Go to the lingot store and buy the streak freeze, for ten lingots?

I think you can only buy one day at a time. The one you bought has to get used up before you can buy another one.

Yeah, and you can't buy a streak freeze in the lingot store on the app. That's how my 199 day streak ended!

During the past five years, I've spent three months in Costa Rica. From what I've observed and first hand experiences related to me, CR has plenty of problems with crime, especially in San Jose and some of the tourist areas. Is Costa Rica safer than Nicaragua? My experience in both of these countries and a few others tells me that your safety depends mostly on exactly where you are and how well you take care of yourself. And interestingly enough, there are some who argue using crime statistics that Nicaragua is in fact safer than Costa Rica. Myself, I think it's a toss up.

Here is a big hug to everybody for all the advice regarding keeping the streak going and especially for all the good vibes sent my way to help me along on this adventure.

My wife agreed to log into my DL account and buy streak freezes for the week I wouldn't have access to the Internet. But while I was showing her how to do this, she asked me if it would by okay if she just did lessons each day. Of course, I said yes. So that takes care of the streak freeze problem. It looks like she's done about 20 lessons so far.

Right now I'm in a guest house in Managua--arrived here about an hour ago. In the morning, I'll take a taxi to the Mayorio bus terminal, an express bus from there to Estelí and then a "chicken bus" to the village where I'll be until next Sunday.

As they say, report to follow.

I feel your pain :( My power went out yesterday and I thought I would loose my streak. But just remember that you will be in a Spanish speaking environment and learning as much as you can! You will be in full immersion which is much more important than keeping a streak :)

https://www.duolingo.com/misschocol

For me it's too much important to learn the foreign language than winning the games. And when you've learn the language a lot,you consider yourself as the real winner. And also important to learn other languages for to communicate with others. And it's so challenging to communicate with other non-English speakers. But you will explored wider and you could learn a lot.So I love Duolingo.Because of this, atleast I could speak Spanish strait although I'm still learning.Buena suerte por estudias Espanol y otras idiomas.Buen dia!

Listen to coldasice26. If you have enough lingots, you may simply have a friend buy you a streak freeze every day you are gone.

Okay, I bought a streak freeze for today, and since I have over 800 lingots, I could buy many days of streak freezes. So I'm going to see if my wife can keep the streak alive for me for the two weeks that I'm gone. We'll see how it goes. I told her that if she forgets or it doesn't work, it will be just fine.

aemann, 365 days is also my goal. I would prefer to be with you on the trip. Can I join you? How did you find this local family? What is the price? I will soon be traveling to the middle east. I am afraid that will end my streak as well. Can't you purchase pause streak days with lingots? I thought I read that somewhere. Good luck.
