"Het kind heeft een derde vraag."

Translation:The child has a third question.

I don't understand the English translation. Ordinal numbers are used with definite articles, this is the way we've been always taught. "A third" sounds like part of something, but then the sentence doesn't make sense. Can anybody refer to a rule that explains indefinite article in this case?
