הגשתי בקשה להתחיל קורס של אנגלית לדוברי עברית
I applied to start an English for Hebrew speakers course! Help is appreciated. If you are Israeli-American, American-Israeli, British-Israeli, Israeli-British, Canadian-Israeli, Israeli-Canadian, etc., etc., etc., and think you can help out, בְּבַקָשָׁה לעשות כן. The more people apply, the more likely DL is to start something. Also, once they agree to it, it will move faster if there are more people involved.
PS Once they have an English for Hebrew speakers course, they may be more likely to have a Hebrew for English speakers course. I figure they may also agree more readily to have an English for Hebrew speakers course - which they haven't started yet even though Hebrew is among the 15 most commonly studied foreign languages in the United States (source: http://www.mla.org/pdf/2009_enrollment_survey.pdf) - if we start this.
Just to clarify - I applied for an ENGLISH course for Hebrew speakers. That's why the title of this discussion is in Hebrew. However, I have a ray of light to offer you guys: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/3253490 Again, I'm announcing an ENGLISH course.
Update: There is now a support group on Facebook for the English for Hebrew speakers course. https://www.facebook.com/groups/309532289445706/.

I am an Israeli-American and I would love to help out with the course. I applied a long time ago and haven't heard back.
Thanks! You applied specifically for an English for hebrew speakers course? I probably wasn't too clear about it. I added a note at the end of my initial post to clarify. ובינתיים אתה מוזמן לעקוב, אחי
Actually, I applied for a Hebrew for English course, but I could help out with either one.
Thanks. Can you apply for a English for hebrew as well? If you want, I can also apply for Hebrew for english
Thanks. What do you think? Should I apply for Hebrew for english speakers? I'm willing to do that too
dude you are awesome and have gr8 jokes that is absolutely totally random
@Micaiah00 Yes and no, I was meaning I could maybe help when I was more fluent
yeah i wish i had the money to have a private tutor then i would spen it on something else ;)
... and once that's there and we all know our oyses, maybe Yiddish for English?
Anyway, good luck with the English for Hebrew and Hebrew for English courses!
Thanks, but I already know German pretty well from secondary school, and do know basic Yiddish; would just like to progress further and hope others will have a chance as well.
Hope it will succeed, would be a very happy day for me. Have 10 lingots as my gratitude ;)
I would love to learn Hebrew on Duolingo! Have a lingot as a token of my support. :)
For some reason I can't respond to your last comment, JewishPolyglot, but I definitely think you should apply for the Hebrew for English speakers course.
Great! I just applied to the English for Hebrew speakers course! Let me know if anyone from Duolingo emails you.
I'm an Israeli , Hebrew native speaker, and I've already contributed to the English for Hebrew speakers and Hebrew for English speakers also ..
So they're finally getting it off the ground???!!! I didn't know that. That's so cool.
Fantastic! Thank you! We need some non European languages represented here :P
True, but no Chinese for English. I guess I should say no non European languages for English speakers.
They made a Turkish course since the last time we schmoozed. Does that count?
אני גם נרשמתי לנסות לדחוף דולינגו להוסיף עברית. אני גם מכיר הרבה מורים של עברית שיכולים לעזור
I also signed up to "try" pushing Duolingo to add Hebrew. I also know many hebrew teachers who would probably sign up if it ever gets off the ground.
הבנת שאני מדבר על קורס אנגלית לדוברי עברית? אולי זה לא היה כל כך ברור. אבל אתמול הגשתי בקשה לעברית גם כן And yeah, like I said, whoever can help will be greatly appreciated
It's crazy--Hebrew is such a minority language in the scheme of the world, and yet it's got one of the biggest support groups on Duolingo constantly pushing for the creation of the course.
I understood that, but I'm talking about the response to your thread, and the many other threads I've seen on the subject.
Lol it's not a big deal, everyone is very excited about both Hebrew and English here :) Tbh I think an English-to-Hebrew course would be more useful, as Israelis usually learn English in school (although that doesn't mean that they're very good at it...), but it's very difficult to get a good Hebrew education outside of Israel. I have witnessed many, many people taking Hebrew classes and never learning anything outside of "אמא" and "אבא".
I hope they put in the vowel points for all the Hebrew, as I'm lousy at remembering the vowels and how to pronounce the Hebrew without the vowel points. I look forward to starting this course, as I should really learn Modern Hebrew.
They already are making a Hebrew for English course but I would love to help you since I am American-Israeli
Please! If there isn't a support group for this endeavor on facebook already, could you make one?
I don't have Facebook. Could you make sure there is a support group for the not-yet-started English for Hebrew speakers course on Facebook?
Just search and see if there is one. If there is, join it and let me know who created it
Hebrew and Arabic must be available for English speakers and to other language speakers to stop the war in Israel being lead by ignorance and the dark sarcasm of the filthy haters. הכוונה הכנה של האנשים צריכה להיות ברורה, לא מה שאחרים אומרים בשמם.
Learning the other guy's language could lead to peace, but in this instance it won't be that easy because it's a lot more complicated than that. Don't get me wrong - I also want peace in the Middle East - but I realize that learning each others' languages is not going to change things for Israel and the Palestinian Territories, even though both parties will be able to understand the other person's language and get news directly from the source. There is a whole lot more to this situation than meets the eye. Have you checked out memri.org?
Hi Jewishpolyglot. Here is the message I posted on your Duolingo 'wall': Hi! I am interested in helping build the English for Hebrew speakers course. I teach English for Israeli Hebrew speaking students and would really like to get this moving. Plus, I have many colleagues who'd be happy to join in and help. Happy to talk in private. Cheers
FYI: the support group on Facebook is for the Hebrew for English speakers...
That would be amazing! Help to break the language barriers! If this succeeds, it will bring all kinds of languages to us, native hebrew speakers community!
אם אתה רוצה לעקוב בטוויטר, אני @JewishTeen. אם אתה רוצה, אתה גם יכול לשטף פעולה עם אלו למעלה שמנסים להתחיל קבוצת תומך בפייסבוק
I have nothing to do with the creation of the Hebrew course which got released yesterday
זה מה שאני רוצה לעשות. אבל קודם צריך שיהיה קבוצת תומך בפייסבוק - ואין לי פייסבוק
I would love to help with this as well. I helped beta test the HEB for ENG version. Where is this effort at the moment please?
I have not received a reply yet. The way to start this is by having a support group for this on Facebook, but I don't think anyone has done a ENG for HEB support group yet. If you have Facebook, do you think you can check if there is one and if there isn't, start one yourself?
Didn't you mean HEB --->> ENG support group?, if needed I can start one but I will need a bit more information of how does the incubator works and how you start a new course and stuff like that
I mean a support group for an English course for Hebrew speakers. If that's what you mean too, then yes. You can contact any of the moderators of the Hebrew for English speakers course for info
Hi, I would be interested in taking English for Hebrew speakers, Spanish for Hebrew Speakers, or Hebrew for Spanish Speakers courses, but unfortunately I am not anywhere close to being fluent enough in Hebrew to help write any of them. Just wanted to post my interest though, because I have been working my way through the English for Spanish Speakers, Spanish for English Speakers, and Hebrew for English Speakers courses. I know the Spanish/Hebrew and Hebrew/Spanish courses are kind of niche, but has there been any progress toward starting an English for Hebrew Speakers course?
I think that they should have every language available both ways. Thus, they'd also have Klingon to Hebrew and vice versa as well. Now, that is even more niche, but I think that its doable.
Best wishes on your Hebrew!
