Thanks to all — especially the inimitable, irrepressible MaeeSafaee, who pushed me to post this — for 400 unforgettable days of learning, friendship, collaboration, shared frustration, tolerance, patience, and fun. I agree with one of usagiboy7's recent posts: mastering foreign languages makes us better human beings.

That's amazing! How did you manage your time during those 400 days? Because it seems to take over 400 days to even get to 25 in one language, for me anyways. :) I admire those who are as dedicated as you are. Felicidades, félicitations, complimenti, congratulations!!!

Hey, that's awesome mate! I have up-voted and given a lingot. Out of interest, your profile says that you are from Philadelphia, USA, so I am assuming English is your native language.... so how come you are at level 25 in English? Have you been doing something in reverse? Also, out of your 4 high leveled languages, have you done them all directly from English or laddered any of them? Thanks and keep it up :)

Thank you. English is my native language. On DL, I translate both forward (into English), which is relatively simple, and reverse (from English into other languages) ... which is not. That's why the icons show me in some English level, which should be ignored. I have laddered east Asian languages (not available on DL), but for the languages available on DL, I have always had English as the reference point. Ciao.

Gracias el profesor :) Hey, the languages I want to practice the most are Russian and Ukrainian, but their courses are both still in development on DL. I never really gave any consideration to doing the English courses for Russian and Ukrainian speakers. In your opinion, is this worth doing, or will it be a waste of time? Вы говорите по-русски?

There is a benefit — you would see some translating from Russian/Ukrainian into English — but I don't believe it would be worth the trouble. Those courses focus on teaching people how to use English correctly, which is very difficult for Russians and Ukrainians but which you already know. When in reverse (translating out of English into a foreign language), I only do Immersion, never the tree.

Andrewr756, why not give it a try? I've been doing it while waiting for the reverse course, and w/ some previous knowledge of Russian, which you obviously have, it is not difficult to handle.

Once you've tried it for a while, try turning off the microphone and speaker, so that you won't be plagued by English dictées and pronunciation exercises. Then what you end up w/ is sentence translation into and out of Russian, which can be used as fairly easy daily practice.

Muy interesante - eres una leyenda políglota! I had not even heard of Hangul. If you are interested in learning more Asian languages, Tagalog might be an interesting one given that you have already mastered Spanish. I am dabbling in it a bit to decide whether it piques my interest enough to learn it more seriously. It is heavily influenced by and has lots of loan-words from Spanish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_loanwords_in_Tagalog

And also many thanks for having picked me up at a moment when I was sitting here translating day after day while hardly anybody was paying attention to my work. As a non-native English speaker (I am Dutch) translating from a L2 into a L2 is not all that evident. But you are always ready to help me. I will never ever forget this. I learn so much from you!

That's awesome, and must be extremely difficult. For the first time I feel dedicated and committed to learning a language (Spanish for now), and it's kicking my ass right now. But I know it will be worth it. I've done a decent job at passing skills the first time, but find that I forget a lot of words when I go back to strengthen them. Did you ever go back and study previous words while you completed these trees, or do you just keep going straight into the lessons?

Keep up the amazing work. You have inspired me.

Sounds great. Best of success with it. (FWIW, that is a language I would love to study--probably Standard, as reading rather than travel would be my involvement--but there are several other languages to become competent in first, and I'm a slow learner.)

. . . So, you translate from English in Immersion. This is something I'd not considered, as Duo's goal is salable material. . . . But why not? Your Spanish looks fine to me (although ( am not competent to judge, it certainly reads very well), and surely the other languages are just as good. . . . Thanks for the example/idea--it gives me something to aim for in Russian.
