Dictation- Sound problems

I can't seem to find this problem anywhere else in discussions, so sorry if it has been posted elsewhere.

I seem to be having problems with my sound for the dictation excersises. I can hear most other sounds (such as the reading out of written sentences, the reading out of individual words when moused over and the correct/incorrect noise), but when it comes to the dictation excersises, I usually can't hear anything, even after trying to click on the play or slow buttons. Sometimes it surprises me and lets me hear it, but most of the time I end up failing the lesson because there were three dictations that I had to skip because I couldn't hear them (and therefore lose hearts), and then I made one other mistake along the way. This is becoming quite frustrating as it's not enabling me to progress.

I have also disabled the reading out excersices, as I seem to have a problem with my mic that extends to other applications (i.e. Skype) where I have to unplug and plug it back in once listening has already started for it to be recognised.

I'm having sound problems too. Yesterday, I could hear the tutor and my playback but nothing today. I've checked my Flash settings and my volume - both seam to be working fine. What else can I/we do?

I'm having the same problem. I also had to disable my mic because only worked half of the time. I keep failing lessons because there's no option to skip when the sound doesn't work. I asked support, but none of the suggestions made a difference (e.g. flash is updated, restarting made no difference).

Me too. I get very frustrated when I fail a lesson because of this. I'm about to give up on Duolingo -- and complain loudly and widely via fb, etc.

I've had problems with the regular speed, but the slow speed always works ( or I should say did work since I haven't done exercises on the desktop in a few days ).

Ok, yep, Safari here and audio is all sorts of cranky. Mostly just getting cut off near the end, not enough that I'm missing any lessons, but annoying.
