Nice Italian movies ?

I'd like to watch some Italian movies , I think it would be great to practise my Italian :)

Yesterday I tried to watch La dolce vita, but can't recommend it for language purposes. The speech is mixed in with background noise so it's hard to make out what they're saying. It's visually beautiful though, and a classic of course.

I'm a big fan of Italian detective shows. Montalbano is the best. (You'll also learn some Sicilian.) Coliandro is very funny (but R-rated). I also liked The Homicide Squad (La omicidi). Commissario Brunetti takes place in Venice but is actually in German. La Piovra is from the 1980s, I think. It's shameless melodrama, but very good shameless melodrama.

I've been watching the TV series about il commissario Montalbano. Very entertaining. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920489/

I see many of you recommend Montalbano. I have seen a trailer and it looks entertaining. Where can I see it and does it have subtitles? :)

PS I tried The Octopus (La piovra) some time ago, but I don't think it's aged well. A question of taste of course - just saying that I personally couldn't watch it.

I saw a good one a little while ago called "The Girl Who Knew Too Much", and I've heard good things about "Cinema Paradiso".
