Pronunciation help: pain vs. pomme
I am having a really hard time hearing the difference between the pronunciations of pain and pomme... they both sound like "pum" to me. Can someone please help?
Pain just is like
pan in frying pan but without the
Pomme is exactly like the
pom in pom pom. I hope this helps!
Pain /pɛ̃/ (bread), homophone of Pin /pɛ̃/ (pine) is one syllable long, the final "n" is never pronounced whereas Pomme /pɔm/ is two syllable long : [Po/mme]. If you're sure you hear an M at the end, that is "pomme".
