At first, I thought this will be just another boring website with some boring content on it. But as soon as I got into DuoLingo, I really started liking it! All I want to say is thank you and good job to the creators of DuoLingo for making foreign languages easier for us to learn.
I have started DuoLingo this week and I've progressed quite a lot. After spanish, I plan to strenghten other languages for fun. DuoLingo makes boring things into something like video games!
Welcome! Make sure you don't burn yourself out is the best advice that I can give, as I'm the same as you. I've been here just over a week (10th day today) and have been going at it pretty hard. Pace yourself and you should find your enjoyment levels staying up :)
When I first started I thought the same as you that I'd burn out if I pushed too hard on practice, but I'm finishing my 397th day streak and I still get up in the morning and while having my first cup of coffee I review earlier lessons and then later in the day if I have a few minutes I check in on my mobile app and do another quick review. After dinner in the evening I jump into new lessons and work on that. I still have the "burn to learn" and now I'm starting to look for a tutor so I can actually practice conversation. Don't give up! There will be times when you are so frustrated, just take a short break and come back to it. I still have hard days on the new material, but the earlier lessons just seem to fly by and seem natural.
Whoa man! 397? My highest is 2! haha ^ nice! thanks for the encouragment too!
Congrats on your streak, that's one of the more impressive that I've seen around for sure. Don't get me wrong, I'll certainly be keeping my streak; revising old content every day and more lessons. But for the last week, for most days, I've been hammering out 200+ xp in a single sitting. I think that is what's going to lead me to burning out. So I'm backing off a bit, and enjoying myself that little more :)
I have had days of 200+ XP's but not too many. I just try to be consistent on studying at least a hour everyday and the averages always catch up. When I first started and was working like you with long periods at one time and 200+ XP's things were moving quickly, BUT then I hit the Verbs Past Tense and that's where things did start to slow down and even now I have to review from there forward more frequently as it seems harder to really know everything in those areas coming forward. I read some on one of the blogs here were someone gave some advice which I really took to heart. He said that it's one thing to go through all the lessons but you needed to constantly review and study everything that you think you've learned and to not just know the material but to OWN it and then you know it for sure. Congratulations on your success so far and your continued success. I agree slow down some and enjoy this and have fun with it.
I completely agree. There's not a day that goes by that I don't start with reviewing previous content, and I also do that a few times throughout doing a few lessons. I think it's a great tool rather than just learning it once.
Thanks, and I'll be sure to follow your progress to see how far you take this streak!
Also actually before I forget, how skilled a Spanish speaker/writer do you find yourself now? Have you had any other lessons prior to this?
Go coursera! I love that site. Have you been able to finish a course over there?
Just the brief history of human being. But I'm working hard on introduction to Biomedical Imaging.I believe I can finish it soon!
Congrats! :) DuoLingo is by far the best free online language learning tool I have found. :)
Make sure you pay attention to the accents - it can completely change words. 'Yes' is 'Sí' and 'girl' is 'niña'. Also you don't need the 'its' there, "mucho gusto" by itself means that it's nice to meet you.
Although, I secretly sometimes don't sometimes but the accents cause I'm just too lazy!
I could be wrong, but as I understand it, it's usually when that letter is accentuated in speech. It has a bit more emphasis on it. Also, the n is an ñ when it's more of an "ny" sound, for instance, 'girl' is not "neena" but "neenya".
By the way, i'll really appreciate it if you guys follow me! I love having XP competitions!
Couldn't agree more, Jeepfrey! I love how the gamification makes the users addicted and challenged in a fun way to learn more and more. I am a newbie too here. Definitely, one of the best sites to learn languages.
Thank you! It's great for me, because I learn Spanish and English just in different levels. And I like Gordon's English. :)
ill happily follow you if you guys follow me, I'm kinda new aswell, my 2nd day today and I'm a level three with 138XP
I agree! The interactive audio is really nice, I just plug in my headphones and listen. It really speeds up learning! DuoLingo makes learning a new language easy and fun!
Hola Jeepfrey.. bienvenidos a Duolingo . Me llamo Sanjay. Soy de la India. Es mi segundo dia en Duolingo.
Hola! Mi nombre es Kirrasio! But anyway, welcome to the Duolingo team! Our goal is to learn all of the languages there is! (But, you probably know that.)
Yes i did kirrasio! I really appreciate what DuoLingo is trying to do to help millions of people worldwide with foreign languanges.
Maybe you didn't awknowledge the creators of DuoLingo? Or maybe I just got lucky. xD
i guess it iz ok. but is is really frustrating when u say 1 wrong li'l word and get it wrong, when it isn't neccessary!!!! :<
That's good though. if you say one wrong word when you're speaking a language, it could be very offensive. It's always good to learn all the words DuoLingo has supplied us with. :>
holly cow! you must have a lot of fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! I never expected this many comments! Thanks to all who participated! I'll appreciate it if you follow me! (I <3 XP challenges xP)
I have been using Duolingo a little over a week and I love it. I have also been watching Telenovelas and Plaza Sesamo on Hulu. Keep it up!

If someone doesn't, they should be ashamed! xD. jk. But still, it's a great website.
