Why does "Non ci sono alcuni" not need "ne"?

Is it possible to build this sentence also with a form of "nessuno"? Or is it always non+alcuno but nessuno has to stand alone?

I think that "nessuno" is more commonly for people. I tried "non c'è nessuno" and it was marked wrong.
