Nel, nello, nella?

I'm not really aware why you use each word, nel, nello and nella in each situation. I'm assuming you use nello when the article is lo - like lo zucchero would be nello zucchero. Is this right? When do you use the others?

in + il = nel

in + lo = nello

in + l' = nell'

in + la = nella

in + gli = negli

in + i = nei

in + le = nelle

Correct, Nello for a "LO situation", nel for an "il situation", nella for a "la situation"

also "nei" for an "i situation", "negli" for a "gli situation, "nelle' for a "le situation" :D

So for example: "nella cucina" = "in the kitchen" ; "nei libri" = "in the books"

I think that should be nel for "il situation"

Why is 'in cucina' correct then?

I think, "in kitchen" is as general: mangiamo in cucina (=always, not having in mind particular kitchen, etc.). But mangiamo nella cucina (having in mind exact place or that we eat in kitchen, not in dining room etc.).

In my opinion 'in cucina' or 'nella cucina' have the same meaning.
