Major tip for improving danish skills
One of the most helpful things I do to improve my danish vocabulary, pronunciation, and listening skills, is listen to danish music. I am sure tons of people have thought of this method before, but if not you should definitely try it. It is such an easy way to learn, you can just play the music in the background of whatever you are doing and still improve your skills. I would recommend Rasmus Seebach as a starting point, he is so talented and very popular, so it is not hard to find his music or lyrics or anything. I have developed quite the obsession for him, and learned a ton of danish. A huge helper is watching lyric videos to his songs, so you can see just how the words are pronounced, since that is tricky for most people with danish. Other danish artists that are really good are Mø (may have seen her with Iggy Azalea), Ankerstjerne, TopGunn, Specktors, just look around, there are tons of styles of music.
I would recommend giving Panamah a go too. They're a Danish electronic pop group (according to wikipedia, minimalist pop) and all of their songs are in Danish. They've released a few songs that became very popular here in Denmark during the last two years; try listening to DJ Blues and Børn af Natten. There's a whole bunch of other cool Danish artists and bands, but most of them only sing in English, such as MØ. still awesome music though
I really like Panamah and Ulige Numre. I also found Nephew to be an amazing Danish rockband.
I haven't heard of them yet so thanks for that :) and it completely slipped my mind that Mø only does english songs, silly me. I only listen to her everyday haha
no worries! Btw, Ulige Numre is also a great rock/pop band whose songs are in Danish. Try "København" and go from there, if you want. Sys Bjerre is also ok. I'm pretty much going through the music on my phone to find something in Danish, hahah, but that's all I've got right now, not counting danish artists singing in English
In case you didn't notice, I'm really excited that you guys actually want to learn my language :D
you danes are so humble haha I honestly have been obsessed with danish culture for ages now and the language is so amazing to me it is so hard living in a country where everyone is like ...what is denmark
Really? We always hear foreigners "joke" how danish sounds like gagging or "having a potato in your mouth" maybe that's why most danes think their language is ugly :( but I'm glad you're so interested! if you ever need help with your danish, just ask :)
A lot of people do think that, but I really enjoy it honestly haha and thanks that's really helpful :) I will definitely have some questions to ask
Danes are so musical. Did you know that on birthdays and other special events, they write songs for each other using popular music tunes. At every party I have attended they all sing. They have such wonderful parties and great senses of humor.
I have been thinking of listening to some Danish music in order to perfect my Danish, however I have yet to get recommendations. Until now! Thank you in advance, I'm sure this will help out, as I have a love for Scandinavian music, considering the fact I memorized a whole song in Norwegian despite only being able to say "Hvordan har du det"!
Thanks again. :)
I had searched Rasmus Seebach up on YouTube, and stumbled upon a song by the name of "1000 år". It is a very catchy song in my opinion, and I recommend it, if anyone would like a recommendation. :)
I love that song! I sing along in the mornings haha! One of my favourite Rasmus songs is tusind farver, it sounds almost like a fairy tale to me and the lyrics are so meaningful. Another is den jeg er, but the story behind that song breaks my heart.
Rasmus is very talented! Takk for suggesting him! I'll be sure to check the songs you mentioned out! Thanks again!
It's no problem! I'm glad other people like him as much as I do haha my friends get so irritated when I play his songs.
Haha, my sister is very irritated when I even speak of him! It's a bit funny.
My Danish teacher makes us sing to help our pronunciation and so far we've done "Så Længe Jeg Lever" by John Mogensen, "Drømmer Jeg" by Johnny Deluxe and some Swedish woman, "Millionær" by Rasmus Seebach and various children's and Christmas songs. Personally, I can also recommend Marie Key, Barbara Moleko and Ulige Numre. There's heaps of Danish music on Spotify, it's worth having a browse.
Dum for dig by Barbara Moleko is such a good song I love singing along and confusing my friends
I actually started learning Danish because my favorite band, Mew, is from Denmark. Nearly all of their songs are in English, though, so it's nice to see suggestions for music sung in Danish.
