Ladies & Gentlemen... To the Streak Freeze!

I have never, ever needed to use a streak freeze. That is, until now. After 123 days of continuous Duolingo use, I finally had a day where I literally could not log on for over 24 hours. All I can say is, I am so happy that I invested in a streak freeze from the very beginning!

Do I plan on using it more often? No, but this is an extremely busy month for me, and the streak freeze is my insurance policy for times like these. The streak really is an ingenious idea, because without it I would certainly not spend some time every single day on this site. This arbitrary number holds me accountable for continuing my language learning education, even if I can only offer the bare minimum on some days. So yes, I am proud of my streak, because without it I would not continue to make such consistent progress.

Excellent post. I sleep better at night knowing that there is a fuzzy baby penguin keeping a streak freeze safe for me just in case. I'm still amazed at how something as simple as a little number can be so motivating, but it works. >^..^<

I was not expecting a toast. :) "to the streak freeze" reminded of Batman and Robin exclaiming "to the bat cave." but lo, here's a penguin after all. ;)

I would have had 150 days in my streak if I had known about Streak Freeze in the beginning. :(

I do my lesson early in the morning. In case I sleep past midnight, I complete my lesson before sleeping :)

I have had a few close calls of acidental usage of the streak freeze, when I was keeping Duolingo for later in the day. I have probably had to use only one streak freeze this way and your 11:55 picture reminded me of those moments.

I have had one intentional use of the streak freeze while camping out in one of the National Parks.

I occasionally do an intentional "day without internet," where I don't turn on my computer, in an attempt to remain grounded in non-electronic reality. Streak freezes allow me to do this without losing my streak. I probably use one a month or so, but only for days without internet. (I am a full-time telecommuter, so I spend my entire working life and a good bit of social time in electronic reality. Sometimes a break is necessary!)
