I think a lot of people find the idioms a bit overwhelming at first. They are a lot more advanced than the lessons that come before them (or many of the ones that come after them). Most of the idioms aren't literal translations so you really have to memorize them.

I wrote them out in a notebook at first because that was the only way I could pass the lesson. Another option is to leave them until you have gotten farther along in the tree, and then go back and try again. By that point, they will be less difficult.

uhmmm . . . just read @miaomiaopurr comments, but I add one tip.

It would really help if you get used to them through Spanish media (peliculas, libros, noticias). That helped them stick in my mind. Hearing them used often makes the learning process easy.

I had to go through the lesson and write them down and memorize them. I have had Spanish teachers hand out study sheets to use to memorize them. I have a couple of books that have the idioms in them, and they are funny, but you can't get an idea of which ones are commonly used.

CG: YOU CANT EXACTLY TRANSLATE WORD FOR WORD, IT'S REALLY HARD IN FRENCH TOO. YOU CANT SAY THAT ITS RAINING CATS AND DOGS IN FRENCH. INSTEAD YOU SAY IL PLEUT DES CORDES WHICH MEANS ITS RAINING ROPES AND STRINGS

I'm giving up on them for now. I think it'll probably be best for me to come back to this lesson when I have enough Spanish to understand more of the words and sentence constructions.
