Which do you use? "Fue un placer" or "Estuvo un placer". Is estuvo for "el/ella/" sentences, or does it not matter?

Es "Fue un placer", nunca "Estuvo un placer". Normalmente, se dice en presente "es un placer".

Being specific with your question and about how you are confused will make it easier for us to assist you. Spanish has a few different ways to say that something was done in the past. "Estuvo" is from "Estar" and it can mean "he was, she was, you were, or it was". It is in the preterite tense, so it is referring to an action that is seen as having been completed in the past. "Fue" is from "Ser" and it can mean "he was, she was, you were, or it was." It is in the preterite tense as well. Estar and Ser both mean "to be" but they are both very different in what sense they are used. http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/serest1.htm (There are four lesson here on the difference between ser and estar on the bar to the left of the page.) Hopefully this explanation will help. http://www.spanishdict.com/topics/show/41 And here's another resource on the difference between the two.

It depends on what sense of "is" you want to go with. If you're describing that "it was a pleasure" as in, to meet you or had a good, time, I'd go with Ser (Fue).

I was just giving estuvo un placer as an example, since I could not think of another example that used estuvo. :)
