Hi Brendan, I started two and a half weeks ago and I am already half way through the tree. My 'gentleman caller' ( at 61 I am waaay to old for a 'boy friend' ) is German but his English is better than mine and I have a degree in English from Oxford. He is visiting family in Germany and I am working day and night to surprise him when he gets back. I decided he was too good a resource to pass up and I am looking forward to all the opportunities to practice speaking with a native. I love German. It seems almost like English but with different words. Perhaps my many years of studying Anglo-Saxon are helping me, I don't know, but I am really enjoying myself! I live in St Catharines, Ontario and there are several German communities nearby. I work with the elderly and thought German would be useful for communicating with dementia patients who sometimes lose their second language but hang on to their first. I like the idea of being able to reach out to them in their mother tongue. Duolingo is a wonderful resource...not perfect but incredible value for the money!! :-) I also keep an internet radio tuned to a German station so I can 'bathe' in the language all day, and I have downloaded a heap of children's books to read and have also discovered the joy of "Hörspielen". This really is a fine community......sehr hilfreich. Willkommen!
