Decluttering the Activity Feed

As I'm following more and more friendly and interesting people, I find myself struggling to get through my activity feed - and I'm not even following that many people yet! So...

  • It would be nice to have a way to filter information, so that we could choose what kind of events to see. For example I'm not particularly interested in seeing who the people I follow decide to follow (though others might be).

  • I would also really like to see all Immersion translations from the same text be grouped together in -one- post, rather than a stream of 'X translated 3 sentences of Y' ... 'X translated 5 more sentences of the very same text just a few minutes later' ... 'Oh guess what? X translated 9 more sentences of that very same text again'. Currently I have five posts in the span of 15 minutes about the same person translating the same text on the top of my activity feed. Kudos to them for the hard work, but it ends up being a bit much to scroll through!

  • I see many of the people I follow commenting on their own 'learned a [language] skill' activity to explain which lesson they just learned. This could be automated to save time and space. Or do people prefer others not to know how far along they are in their learning? In that case, perhaps a privacy option could be a good compromise.

  • When someone comments on an Immersion discussion, it shows up as a blank event. If it's going to show up on my feed, I'd like to see which text it pertains to, and/or the beginning of their comment, so that I can at least have some idea of whether it's relevant to me or not. I don't necessarily think it needs to be on my feed at all though, unless it's a text I've actually contributed to translating.

Do you guys have any ideas for making the activity feed more functional, relevant or interesting?

The ability to delete comments and the ability to give lingots to people would be nice.

The activity feeds and user profiles have always felt half done to me, like they wanted a social media aspect to the site but then got distracted by something shiny and wandered away.

I like those ideas! Being able to give lingots somewhere else would mean less forum spam as well.

These are very good suggestions! I like the activity feed but it can be quite cumbersome.

I like to see what articles people are working on in immersion, but the repetitive listings in the activity feed are kind of silly. Also, sometimes they seem inaccurate - the numbers just don't add up and sometimes when I've only upvoted sentences (without editing) in an article, it will still show up on my activity feed as if I translated sentences, although most of the time it doesn't.

Yeah, I like it too, it inspires me to do Immersion! ^^

I never paid much attention the numbers, but it's strange that they're inconsistent. We have to translate the sentences we upvote too, so it wouldn't be wrong if they did count, but it should be the same across the board.

Condensed view: for each day, condenses the activities of every person you follow to one paragraph each.

Hide person's activity: keep following busy people, but don't have the activity feed taken over by them.

Exactly my thoughts. Filtering some items out would be nice. Have a lingot!

These are great suggestions, thanks for posting! I wish Duolingo would implement at least a few of these!
