Back from Nicaragua
I just returned from a trip to Nicaragua. The first week was at the Hijos del Maíz Spanish language school in el Lagartillo, a rural village of about 150 people in northern Nicaragua. This Spanish language immersion experience worked very well for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a full immersion experience with the caveat that you must be the kind of person who is okay without indoor plumbing, internet, etc. Plus you should be able to figure out or know how to travel using local buses. So this school is not for everyone. For more details, here's the link to their website: www.hijosdelmaiz.net
As I understand things, your instructor and the family you will stay with is done in some kind of a rotation, so my experience may have been the best one possible. Maybe not, too. The instructor I had was very intelligent and quickly figured out what I knew and didn't know and easily adapted her teaching to the way I learn. And the family I stayed with was friendly as were the other people in the village.
If you sign up to attend Hijos del Maíz, please feel free to message me with any questions you may have.
