The audio sounds like cubana, not cubano. Both answers should be accepted.

Realy! it does a strange thing in this 'o'. Its sounding anything between 'a' and 'o'.

Listen to the 'americano' ( https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/7412715 ) the 'ano' in both these frases is exactly the same and there have the correct pronunciation!

I don't know about anyone else, but for me the sentence was spoken by a woman. After listening several times I was unsure so went with context and went for 'a'. I can't see it is helpful to have things like men's voices saying obrigada etc.
