Pronunciation: "Er" vs "Ihr"
Alo! I find it hard to recognise when it is one or the other being spoken by the duolingo lady lol Any hints on this? I hear both pronouns sound somewhat like 'ee-ah'
"ER" sounds like the English word AIR while "IHR" sounds like the word EAR.
That was what I was thinking when mentally speaking these 2 words... But having lost some 'hearts' throughout my duolingo listening tasks, I got really muddled up!
This mispronunciation - both er and ihr sounding the same - has been bugging since I started Duolingo. I did point it out but was told it was fine despite my German speaking brother in law and several other learning sites agreeing with me..
Sometimes (not always) the proceeding verb helps you to tell which one. So "er hat" and "ihr habt" or "er liest" and "ihr lest".
Yes but too often it is the same pronunciation. er arbeitet - ihr arbeitet / er bringt - ihr bringt / er hebt - ihr hebt / er ruft - ihr ruft etc.
Fortunately for me, I know German well enough that I don't confuse these two words. But if you are new to the language this lady does not make it easy for you.The French speaker really confuses me since I am new to that language. At least in German things are spoken the same as they are written.
