Esperanto coming sooner

http://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/eo/en/status

Well, it looks like we're going to get Esperanto sooner than planned. Apparently they're just going to release an unfinished Esperanto tree and finish it up while we get to learn the early lessons.

Have you decided for an exact date Mr. Smith?

No, and we will never do so. We're a volunteer team, so we work when we have free time, thus it is impossible to have an exact date. It's done when it's done. For more details on the current status, see: http://learnlangs.com/duolingo_esperanto

On a side note, have they given you something to deal with the free word order yet or are you still having to type out every possibility separately?

Still typing out every possibility separately, but we've decided to just accept the ones that sound natural. Otherwise, we'd go insane. :)

I hope you're still gonna let in every correct suggestion by users. As what might be natural to you might not at all be natural to others when it comes to Esperanto =)

Sure we'll let in correct suggestions if they're correct, but we won't try to think of every possibility. :)

This is exciting news! Is it tied to the push towards more-adaptive learning?

No.

I expect that learners will be very pleased with the new, slightly shortened, Esperanto tree, and will not consider it "unfinished" when it is released. We are designing it to be up-to-date and comprehensive from the point of view of vocabulary, grammar and usage suitable for the beginner to intermediate student of Esperanto.

I definitely won't. I'm extremely happy I get this course sooner and it's not unfinished. You have my full support Ruth. You and the entire Esperanto team.

Would the bonus skills come along with the tree?

Yes, we are planning on Esperanto Culture, and Flirting.

I think here I don't see "unfinished" as a bad thing. To me, it just sounds like I'll get to study Esperanto sooner, and then when I've finished learning that tree to perfection I'll know there are even more lessons on the way!

I'm still kind of confused on the 'Tree 2.0' thing... several groups have been talking about this as a possibility, and I'm confused on how it works. Is it that there will be an entirely new page that will have the second tree, or once it releases will it automatically appear on the tree's page?

EDIT: It looks like amuzulo explained the process on psionpete's comment. Never mind! THis sounds really cool!

Sure does. I'd love to be able to extend my knowledge in German, Russian and Esperanto. I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep going with Dutch or not.

Esperanto a good language to learn and I am waiting for it to come. Does anyone among the contributors use Esperanto as a native language?

January 2, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/RuthKC

Several of the contributors are completely fluent in Esperanto and use the language on a daily basis with friends and at home with their partners/families.
