Why is it "tror" instead of "tycker"? Are there different kinds of thinking?

Yes.

Tro is to believe, tycka is to have an opinion.

is the "att" in this sentence essential? can i say it without it?

You can skip it.

What about tänker it was not accepted

Doesn't work. tänker is more for 'having thoughts' or something like that. As in 'Don't think of a pink elephant.'

That difference would be so useful in English. Too many opinions, not enough thinking.

So why isn't the English sentence then 'I don't believe...'? Why are you leading people to the wrong answer where the problem is in English, not in Swedish?

i thought that ...att du träffat min pojkvän without har would also be correct?
