Etymological question: In the part of the U.S. where I live, some people use the word "britches" or "breeches" when referring to pants. Could this originate from the Irish word "brístí", maybe??


The Irish word was originally a loan from Middle English. (Brēc was the Old English word; I don’t know if it had its own roots in Latin bracae.)
