Some Confusion

Lately I've been having some troubles when they ask the whole "Translate 'the girl'" type questions but when you do the pictures you're taught "Het meisje" for the selection of "Find this." Because when I first learned that, they had "het" on the picture. Yet they'll want the to be "de."

How do you know when to use de and het? Are the pictures just to introduce you to the differences in de and het?

Meisje is a diminutive, and you always use "het" with those. Lavinae put up an explanation for using the articles around half a year ago now: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/3732938.

That doesn't help because when I did the exercise and put in Het meisje like the picture showed, it told me I got it wrong and that it was "De meisje."

That is definitely something you need to report if you see it again. It could only be de meisjes.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I was kinda wondering about that. Cause if the picture was saying one thing and they wanted another it's kinda confusing to learn. Next time I see it I'll report it. Didn't know if it was a glitch or not.

I think they fixed it! This time when they asked for "The girl" I put in "Het meisje" and it was accepted :3
