Why is "I do not know it, ask someone else" not acceptable when it has "det" in the do not know part?

Both should be accepted. Am I mistaken?

The Danish, "Jeg ved det ikke", translates to English as "I do not know". If you want to say "I do not know it", one would normally say, "Jeg kender det ikke", or "Det kender jeg ikke".
