Can't wait to see Duolingo for schools!
Any teachers out there excited for the new Duolingo for schools? It's supposed to be out tomorrow! I just know it's going to be the answer to all of my problems, haha! Seriously, though, I really want to see it! Anybody have some insider information for me! ;)
I am a teacher and I also use Duolingo in my classroom. I love it. The students love it. I'm looking forward to some functions that would make it more usable for teachers such as...being able to track student progress (thank you zakblak!). I can really see it being the best thing that is happening in education. Not so much the actual content but the crowd-sourcing. Why should schools pay thousands of dollars a year for pre-made curriculum when we educators could be working together to create something even better. Free. If Duolingo wants any input from the teachers, I volunteer!
Great! Wouldn't it be awesome to have a platform where we could share ideas to go along with Duolingo? Like maybe discussion activities for class, links to authentic video, writing assignment ideas or whatever?
Yes, that would be great. Maybe in the new Duo for schools there is also a discussion board area.
In any case, I did a presentation about Duolingo as homework practice and posted it here a while back and many other teachers commented, which was very nice. Here's the link (another teacher started it): https://www.duolingo.com/comment/4545606
I do love how much I learn from the community here, not just language (I am learning German myself).
Oh, thanks for the links! Very helpful! I managed to get two students signed up on the new dashboard! We're out of school today because of the cold but I emailed them and bribed them with extra credit to log in today!
It is fun! I love a comment that I saw in discussions the other day. It was something like, "Thank you Duolingo for giving me a more useful alternative to CandyCrush!
haha today people were "sneaking" duolingo on their phones in class. my teacher laughed and enjoys to see enthusiasm... duolingo gets somewhat addictive!
Today at school I suggested to my Spanish Teacher about the new programming for Duolingo being released tomorrow. I am actually very much excited by the thought. Whatever the outcome is, I know this knew program will help us youth gain a better understanding of our given language!
I didn't see anywhere that said what it will include. Did you? Just tracking?
Well, I assumed tracking because that is what the teachers are asking for. That way the students don't have to show them their trees, this allows them to simply enter scores into grades as well as track how well students are doing.
