airoplanes is English, airplanes is American. An English word must surely be accepted.

Yes it is accepted if you spell it correctly as "aeroplanes". "Airoplanes" is not a word, British or American.

How can you tell if på is looking at airplanes or looking for airplanes?

Kigge på is always look at. To look for is a completely different expression, lede efter.

Is "aircraft" not an acceptable translation?
