Strengthening the same skills over and over again

Hi all,

I'm having annoying issues with my Portuguese tree. Here is the problem: it's been about 10 days that I have to strengthen a bunch of 4 or 3 skills everyday. It's the exact same skills (verbs present 2, places, objects, and people), and though I keep strenghtening them every day (most of the time without any mistakes), I know I'll have to strengten them again the day after. I'm desperately trying to have a fully golden tree but it's been harder and harder because of that.

Is anyone having the same issue, and do you know how could I fix that?

Muito obrigado

I think this is part of the learning strenghten skills over time...are you saying that you would like them to stay "full strenght" for a longer time?

Obrigado pela resposta Andre,

Well, it's not that I don't understand the principle of strengthening skills, but all the other skills don't need streghtening every day, and those 4 do. I mean after almost 2 weeks of strenghtening them, I'm pretty sure I master them fairly well!

For instance this morning I strengthened TWICE the skill "objects", and yet it was rated 4 out 5 and not golden. I made one mistake out of the 17 x 2 exercices, so I don't really get it. Do you have to strengthen that skill 50 times a day for it to be golden?

It takes me some time every day to strengthen those skills, and it prevents me from progressing and moving on to the next skills. It's frustrating.

Agora eu entendi o que você está querendo dizer...

...I did not use the Portuguese langague, and I'm not sure if all languages share the same algorithm to decide which skills users need to strenght...with Spanish, very often I use the "strenghten skills" button several times, and the skills remain not full, so I assume that this function is not using that (skilll level) as the main criteria...maybe it considers your mistakes first, then skills level??...I have no idea.

I couldn't find an explanation of how it works.

I am sure it will be sorted eventually! I mean, how much does it need to be strengthened in order for it to remain gold for at least a few days... I suppose I'll just move on and forget about having a fully golden tree.

Muito obrigado por sua ajuda Andre, si quieres ayuda también en español, ou même en français (I'm french actually, nice picture by the way), don't hesitate! ;-)

You know that I started paying more attention to makes more sense to me to look at my entire tree and search for skills that are not "full", instead of using the general "strenghten skills" button...

Valeu, Abraço.

That's what I used to do, use the "strenghten in general" when my tree was always gold, but now I don't have time for it, since I have 4 skills to strengthen every day + the 2 or 3 new ones...

So did you spot particular skills that need strengthening??

January 8, 2015

No, it is quite random...

January 9, 2015

Sure, thanks! André

January 8, 2015

Well, strenghtening ALL the particular skills that needed strenghtening and making my tree consequently fully golden earned me 172 XPs today!!!!

But I'm quite tired to have to translate the same old words and expressions which I for sure know by now!

Please Duolingo, fix this quickly!!

me too in Italian. Ridiculous! So much so I may quit.

January 26, 2015

Same here! I am so tired of strengthening the same skills every day that I'm considering leaving Duolingo. I can't learn anything new since it's taking me so much time to strengthen those skills, what's the point of staying then?

I also use one I pay $8/month called Yabla, which is very good for all levels. You can use it a lot of different ways. You always want free programs but this isn't much for what you get.

Thanks, I checked it out but they don't do Portuguese. It's OK, I also use Rosetta Stone and I've bought some books! I'll speak Portuguese eventually, no matter how! ;-)
