Finally tested out and conquered the French tree ^-^
When I first joined duolingo (17/03/2013) I was happy working my way down the tree. However, when I got down to the last two skills (sports and economics) I discovered Immersion. I decided that this would be more useful to me seeing as I needed to practise translations for exam purposes. So after several months of neglecting the tree, today I finally decided to test out of those last two skills. And voila! French tree complete ^.^
Félicitations! What will be your next language conquest? I too have been neglecting my French tree in favour of newer, younger trees that do stuff my French tree can't do.
Take the Spanish for French speakers, the advantages are:
Lets you keep practicing French (will add a few more words to the vocabulary)
Will let you directly compare Spanish/French, yes they are similar, Spanish is probably going to feel much easier because the grammar is very similar. AND, the proninciation is much staighforward. Now that you have completed the French tree, you should be able to complete the Spanish tree much faster.
I think it lets you keep French/Spanish separate (I think if you study Spanish from English you are going to feel it too much like French and you might not remember the exact French words, it will be easy to mix them).
Will be more fun. :)
Be aware that:
Conjugation is the same !@@#%$ pain than in French and, of course, it does not use the same sufixes as in French.
Gender is also strongly stressed in the Spanish grammar (not as much as French, but almost as much) and gender for innamimate objects is pretty much random: la voiture/el coche. la mer / el mar. Part of the fun of learning languages!
Spanish is another great language to study! It is easier than French ( In my opinion) Félicitations!
It never even occured to me that you might not have already finished your tree! Félicitations!
Yes, I've also been learning French at school for almost 7 years now so that has helped me a lot :)
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
Thank you! ^-^ I didn't even notice that anyone had until you pointed it out :o
I couldn't find any other pic of her that was good enough. "Lips are movin" wasn't the song which actually drew my attention to her...
Félicitations! Vous devez avoir un sacré bon niveau maintenant, surtout avec votre niveau 25! Bonne continuation :)
Congratulations! Good luck with your next languages... do you think you'll do something similar with languages you will do in the future?
Thank you :) I actually want to be a primary school teacher in the future, but knowing another language is useful for that :)
I started learning French here almost a year ago. Clearly, I have been slow-paced but what I want to know is that how effective and useful this french tree actually is to me if I am serious about learning the language? I'm not aiming for fluency of a native writer, speaker but enough to make conversations other than formal greetings, can I achieve that by completing this course?
I'm not entirely sure how far you'd get by completing the tree alone, as I started the French tree after I'd been learning French at school for 5 and a half years. However, I do think duolingo has helped me with my French lessons over the past year. I'd suggest that you keep working on the tree and maybe try Immersion once you feel you're ready for it. Then you could always find French people to type to so that you can practice written French and maybe even skype some people :)
Pues... Felicidades! Leí en una de tus respuestas que el Español será tu próximo reto, te deseo todo lo mejor y sigue así, lo haces muy bien!!!!
Are you asking for the translation into French or the actual meaning of the sentence?
how do you get lingots on this discussion? maybe someone could show me how by giving me one?
