Is it wrong to say "Jag var befordrad i går"

That would sound as if you're not promoted anylonger :).

Incorrect pronunciation of the 'a' in "befordrad"

My Swedish wife tells me that she would never split i and går - she would always use igår. Can you do that?

I'm sorry, but she's wrong. Both spellings are absolutely fine, but the separated one is the one recommended by the Language Council of Sweden, so that version is the main translation throughout the course.

Good to know. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure "igår" is more used. To me "i går" is Norwegian.

Well, igår is very common, but what devalanteriel said is correct. The version I går is recommended by the Language Council. Nothing Norwegian about that.

Both ways are perfectly acceptable of course.

I get an error with my bold proposal of "i går blev jag befordrad". Why?

Probably just because you reversed the sentence constituents. This was discouraged when the course was built, and although we later started planning to allow for more variations in sentence construction, we never quite got around to actually implementing it.
