Why doesn't "het is niet je schuld" work?

It is correct. Although - "jouw" has more emphasis than "je", and in this context would be considerably more common.

Can you also say "Jij hebt geen schuld" for this?

Schuld hebben has a slightly different meaning: a) being blamed or found responsible/guilty (by a judge or somebodies opinion) to e.g. an accident or something that went wrong or b) being in debt:

  • jij hebt geen schuld aan het ongeval (you are not to be blamed for the accident)
  • ik heb een schuld bij de bank (I am in debt with the bank)
