For whatever reason i have a hard time remembering certain vocab from duolingo. That's not undermining the system (Because it works fantastic). I learn vocab way easier with Memrise. So i thought, why not combine both worlds. And, someone has created a course on memrise of just duolingo vocab. This course is broken down into "chapters" that strictly follow duolingo's spanish course. Here's the link for those interested

I use memrise but I kind of hate learning words without the context of a real sentence. I am thinking about making a memrise course one day that would include the next 1000 most frequent words not covered by duolingo's tree.

That's been my issue with Memrise as well, but now when it gives me single words I force myself to make a sentence with them before the time runs out, thus giving them a context that makes sense to me while forcing me to think in Spanish. Seems to help! :)

That's sort of what I do on Memrise. For difficult words, I write my sentences in the "create a mem" space. It takes longer, but it makes words stick.

I wish you would! Definitely let us know if you do that. I would love something like that!

Yeah I have a list of the top 50,000 most frequent words used in Spanish subtitles. I used a script to subtract the duolingo vocabulary list from it. I hand edited out abbreviations, English words, names, etc. A number things discouraged me like how to deal with past participles which duolingo teaches but does not list them on it's word list. I'm not too confident with the words either. For example the number one most common word on my edited list is "favor". I assume it is high because of "por favor" and duolingo teaches that phrase. But "favor" has other uses but I do not know if those other uses are in fact very common. Maybe I should just delete anything I am unsure of.

I would not delete them. I would give it your best guess then ask anyone who finds a problem to let you know. Making mistakes is how we all learn (both from our own mistakes and from others) and is not something to be avoided, but rather, overcome.

Hey, I saw someone else mention Memrise and I tried out a beginner German lesson on that site tonight..I thought it was a great addition to DuoLingo to help with my German. I love DuoLingo as my main language teacher but I am trying to get as much extra help as I can from various sites. :)

I really like it too. It is a great and fun way to supplement my German learning on DuoLingo, and I noticed the stuff they give you really sinks in from repetition, not to mention the neat Mems on there for hard to remember words. Great tip!
