Why does: Der Wolf isst ein Tier translate as: The wolf is an animal and not: The wolf eats an animal?

By the way: In German you actually do not say "essen" if it is an animal that eats something but "fressen".

That must be a mistake. sein -> ist essen -> isst

Probably its some kinda mistake, "isst" and "ist" are totally different. And the verb "eat" is "fressen" for animals. Even if you write "der Wolf isst" it should have been translated as "the wolf eats".
