Há aqui uma ambiguidade, Primeiro sentido: vendo um grupo de pessoas desconhecidas, alguém diz:"Conheço apenas a garota." Segundo sentido: mesma cena - alguém nota a garota e pergunta se é minha amiga. Respondo:" Apenas conheço a garota"( = mal conheço a garota). Afinal, o que significa "Conosco appena la ragazza"? Acho que o segundo sentido corresponde bem à tradução inglesa. Mas não tenho certeza de que corresponde à frase em italiano...

In Spanish 'Apenas conozco a la chica' (my instinct is to put the 'appena' in front, too) means 'I hardly know the girl' and nothing else. Maybe Italian is the same? So your second meaning, I do not understand what your first meaning is, though, can you explain?

I'll try to explain ( I'm not good in English....). 1º) I know only the girl ( among other people); 2º) I know that girl a little. Please, correct my poor language!

Oh! Ok. That's not how we use 'apenas' in Spanish. 1) I know only the girl = sólo conozco a la chica. You might say 'apenas conozco una persona en este grupo' but you wouldn't use 'apenás' when refering to a specific person, that make sense? You would not use 'hardly' in English either, but 'only'. Just a usage difference, I'm going to assume Italian is the same and the dual meaning of 'apenas' is exclusive to Portuguese. So for Italian is meaning 2) like duolingo is saying. Best I can do, hope that helps?

My ignorance of Portuguese is wide and deep, but I think your first meaning doesn't work. "I know just the girl" (i.e. nobody else) would be something like Conosco solo la ragazza.

And about the second meaning?
