French Movies

Greetings, friends! I am a little new to Duolingo and really loving it so far. I am trying to find a way to supplement what I am learning in Duolingo by watching movies with both the audio and the subtitles in French. I am hoping on finding some basic films or shows first (hopefully for free). Does anyone know of anyplace I can look? Or for any specific movies?

Thanks, CGIO

Hi! First of all, welcome to the community!

May I (humbly) point you to this thread. It is a list of movies I made some months ago depending on the genre you might be looking for. Check the comments, many people played the game and added their personal favourites! I'd advise you to start perhaps with contemporary movies, the language should be easier to understand :)

(and of course, Disney movies and their songs are a great solution if you like them)

As for where you can find them, I'd say Netflix and Amazon... For... let's say... less legal ways to find them, maybe try to go on (or any website, but the French version) and look for them :)

And for subtitles: I think you can find some on

But unfortunately, that's all I have and I'm not sure about the quality! They were suggested by other users, though :)

Bon courage pour la suite!

You can also try checking French movies out of your local library. My library recently joined hoopla, which is an online streaming service that lets you "check out" movies. It works similar to netflicks, but it is free if your local library is a member. You only get a limited number of movies per month, which varies by library system (for me, it is 10), but it is free! Even if your library doesn't have hoopla, it may have something similar. I believe Films on Demand is another similar service affiliated with local libraries, but I haven't used it.
