accents in ipad app

Can anyone advise how to add accent marks to letters in the ipad app. I hold the letter down like it said but when I try to add the accent it stops the lesson as incomplete and I lose a heart every time. Thanks.

hold the letter down, then drag up to the accent you want. :D Don't let go of the letter, if you do, that will happen.
